About Brian

Brian grew up in a medical family and thought he’d go to medical school given a fascination with the human body and a love of science. However, math was never his strong suit (though he loves spreadsheets) so he abandoned that career choice. After graduating from Brigham Young University with a degree in English, he started working for technology companies, including providing support for dental offices. He moved to Oregon in 1997 to attend Willamette University for both his JD and MBA.

Brian started his legal career as a deputy district attorney in Marion County, then joined a boutique firm providing legal services to medical providers. Given his prior thoughts of medical school, work with dental offices, and family of medical providers, this seemed like the “right” side if he wanted to continue attending family functions.

After several years in the boutique firm and a few at a larger firm, Brian started his own firm concentrating on smaller businesses, maintaining a focus on healthcare providers. His clients include individual health care providers, practice groups, independent practice associations, coordinated care organizations, and various other healthcare and non-healthcare related businesses.

In addition to his law practice, Brian has participated on the Oregon State Bar Health Law Executive Committee, been an adjunct professor at Portland Community College, and served on the nonprofit Boards of Pacific Youth Choir and Bells of the Cascades.

In his spare time, Brian enjoys exploring the Willamette Valley, spending time in the kitchen (both preparing and devouring food), playing with dogs, and watching Korean dramas.

Brian is licensed to practice in Oregon and Washington. He is a member of the Multnomah Bar Association and the American Health Lawyers Association.

How We Work

We are here to help you organize for success, navigate legal and regulatory issues, and address problems when they arise. Brian works collaboratively with you to define your goals and find innovative ways to achieve them. We begin this collaboration with a free consultation making sure we understand your issues and we both believe working together is a good fit. We then work with you throughout the process to ensure reasonable and attainable deadlines, adjusting as circumstances require.

01

Consultation

During the free consultation, we’ll discuss your goals and ways we can help. If we can’t help, we’ll try to refer you to someone who can. We’ll also discuss costs and, in some cases, provide flat fee services.

02

Working Together

Most of our communication will be via email and phone. Video and in-person appointment are also available as necessary. When possible, Brian assigns work to a paralegal to reduce your costs. We set realistic timelines and keep you informed about the progress of your work. In addition, Brian understands that small business owners and professionals can sometimes benefit from after-hour consultations and works to accommodate this need.

03

Ongoing Support

Our goal is to earn your trust and be available as different issues arise in your professional life. Brian keeps current on relevant laws to help you navigate changes in the law and your business.
